Absolutely fantastic experience from the moment we stepped through the door! Nice lounge area while you wait for food, where you can enjoy drinks and nibbles. There are fine views over the Mawddach estuary which are maximised by the fact all tables are upstairs, and the waiting area is downstairs. The parking area is a bit shabby, so don't be put off by parking there! Two tables in particular command views through the full length picture windows- it's worth seeing whether you can reserve one of these when you book. The menu is small but very interesting, reflecting the fact that there are only about 10 tables upstairs. There is a seperate children's menu available offering freshly prepared versions of kids' staples such penne pasta and bangers and mash. There is a high quality wine list much of which is available by the glass and the whole experience was a relaxed, unhurried feeling of being well looked after in comfortable and attractive surroundings. I am still dreaming of my dessert!
Having a family home in Dolgellau, we’ve visited the Mawddach quite a few times now. Every time we go, we seem to forget to write a review… but we’ve finally gotten around to it! Last weekend we went for a Sunday lunch for my boyfriend’s birthday and yet again, we had an excellent meal. The Sunday roast was exceptional and for the quality, very reasonably priced. We both ordered the beef for our main which was cooked to perfection and followed that with the chocolate mousse dessert which was particularly good, especially topped with the honeycomb. We have normally visited on Saturday evenings where the main menu is slightly different so were very pleased to see the selection for both days is just as good. By having a smaller menu, with quite simple sounding meals, the chefs are able to cook genuinely delicious dishes. The service is always brilliant, the view is incredible and we will continue to visit the Mawddach during our holidays to Dolgellau.

We had a fantastic meal here, some regular favourites as well as some house specialities. All very well cooked. The staff were very friendly and service was great.
Had two meals here this week. The food the first night was good though it should be said the bread accompanying the Chat was undercooked and we didn't get our poppadoms! Having said that the starter was immediately taken off the bill and the poppadoms not charged for. There were no quibbles and we experienced no awkwardness. The second night was a lovely meal with no issues at all. The service was again good. We will be going back the next time we visit.

Absolutely sublime food. I’m a fussy/snobby eater, but this place really ticked all the boxes for me. We turned up an hour before closing and they were still super accommodating, the food was still amazing and the service was all-in-all fantastic. I’m also a tight fisted git sometimes, but I couldn’t leave without dropping a large tip... the general price of everything was incredibly fair for substance and quality. Our waiter was amazing also. Very polite and gave us the space we wanted while we ate... but was also attentive and had a great sense of humour to boost the whole atmosphere. Also a lovely view from the dining room. Not a place I’d be driving past again, but if I ever did I’d stop in for a quick bite to eat.
Visited the Cross Foxes on a Friday evening. We did not have a booking but were lucky enough to get a table. They were really busy. The menu is good, just enough choice. The food arrived quickly, it looked and tasted amazing. Really really good. Enjoyed every bite of it. The double chocolate tart was just phenomenal, really loved it. Make sure you try it yourself. Service was great, the waiters were kind and friendly. I was stupid enough to leave my wallet on a table. They run after me to the car park in the rain and gave it back, cannot thank for that enough. Awesome food and service, recommended!

Friendly and cheerful two level café in the heart of Dolgellau serving a range of cakes, tea / coffees, hot and cold meals, beers and wines. The building has some very interesting architectural features- especially upstairs! Service was effecient, portions were very generous with an emphasis on local produce. Occasional live music adds to the atmosphere. Top tip- sit at the window table upstairs and look out over the bustling square!
Nice setting, especially upstairs, reasonably priced and good service.
